Turions:
As we expected, the Utricularia minor
plants were producing winter buds. However we were surprised to see
them producing such dramatically flattened leaves. This is not typical--usually they are
more threadlike or only slightly flattened.
Yes, the leaves are often
flattened near the winter buds, but not usually along the entire shoot length as seen here.
It would have been interesting to collect specimens to see if the flattened leaf morphology
was maintained in cultivation experiments, but we were in
National Park land and I did not have collection permits.
That strange circular thing near the center of the photograph is some kind of fungus fruiting.
