Flowers:
I finish off with a final image of an emerging Darlingtonia flower, as it will
appear in early May. It is remarkable to think about how these flower buds are grown in the fall, but stay dormant
all winter until it is time for them to elongate and mature in the spring. Certainly, it is
something to look forward to!
In the end, we finished our photography, and hustled as rapidly as we could back to our car. When we finally arrived,
car was covered with 5cm (2 inches) of snow and the road was covered. Ice was forming on the highways, but we managed to
make it back to the highway with ease. Winter storm conditions kept the highway driving to a crawl, but that was fine.
The conditions were horrendous! It was a relief to get out of the snow country, and back into the central valley of
California where the flowers were blooming!
